World Maths Day (World Math Day in American English) is an online international mathematics competition. In 2007, World Maths Day was originally held on the March 14 (Pi Day), and then on the 1st Wednesday in March in subsequent years. Despite these origins, the phrases "World Maths Day" and "World Math Day" are trademarks and not to be confused with other competitions such as the International Mathematical Olympiad or days such as Pi Day. In 2011, World Maths Day was held on Tuesday 1 March. Registrations opened on 1 February 2011.

Question sets have come under five categories: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and simple equations. In each game, the student has one minute to answer as many of these questions of a random category as they can. The level of difficulty is approximately age appropriate. This changed a little over the years though, with each age category having five levels and each level consisting of different kind of exercises. Level 5 of the highest age category consisted of squaring and raising numbers to the third power this year (2011).
When playing a game, the website will attempt to find other players of the same level to match the player against. If no matches are found, the player plays "against" a computer (which answers questions at pace similar to the past history of the student). After each game, the results are shown together with the competitors' results.
The event is organized by Australian e-Learning company 3P Learning and is run using Mathletics, a subscription-based program.
In 2011, the event occurred on March 1st. 5.3 million students from over 215 countries combined to correctly answer 428,598,214 mathematics questions. The world champions of 2011 are:

The extremely large volume of traffic to the site (over 5 million sign ins during the 48 hours) resulted in some users being unable to access the site at various stages of the event. As a response to this complication, officials gave additional free access to the site for a further whole day. There was also an extension in the qualifying period for class prizes.
